First Thing to Go

So that wallpaper didn't last very long, and we figured that if we were going to paint some of the walls in the great room, we might as well paint them all. "Great room" we discovered is Real-Estate-Agent-speak for a living room with higher than normal ceilings. We lost track of our plan somewhere along the way and ended up painting the walls the wrong way around in the hallway, but it looks nice and it'll make a change when we swap them around sometime down the line (if we stick with the same colour scheme).
We wanted to get this done in a hurry, so we got our friend Craig to do our painting for us (Italian Creative, available for all painting jobs in SE-MI). We setup a fixed position camera to get some fun time-lapse videos. He was a bit put off at first - but after he saw the first one he thought it was really cool. You can see them in the Picasa album here. The before and after photos are in the same album, but we only went a little bit of a shade lighter on the other 3 walls, so you can't really tell in the photos.
Here the lounge shot when it was finished:

Love at First Sight... Almost.

So, let's go back to the beginning. We first viewed the house in January 2011 and really liked it from the moment that we pulled into the subdivision. There were a few things that weren't perfect, and not knowing too much about well-water and Radon we were a bit put off. After another 25 house viewings, and a bit of education from the locals we realised that this was by far the best house on the market. We were looking for a few key things and this had them all:
- Space from the neighbours.
- Flat land for a pool.
- A good entertainment area.
- A separate dining room.
- A good sized basement.
We closed on the house in March, and got the keys in April. Clicking on the photo to the left will take you to the photos from our first viewing. Yes, the wallpaper was the first thing to go.

A New Start

So, this is pretty much the same picture that I posted to Facebook, but we had to start somewhere. After a few suggestions that we start a blog, and a lot of suggestions that we post pics of the house, we're now getting around to it.
After looking online at about 250 houses, and viewing about 30 of those in person, we bought the "cape-cod" in this picture. Cape Cod just means that the upstairs isn't as big as the downstairs, but that there are two floors. It also has a huge basement. ;)
The blog that follows won't be very wordy, just mainly pictures and commentary - we're also open to posting more (pics or words) on any given thing that we've done if you're interested. Ok, so just a few stats:

Bedrooms: 4
Bathrooms: 2.5
Area: 2500 sqft (not including basement)
Lot: 1.8 acres
Built: 1991
Water and Sewage: Private Well and Septic Tank
